The German aircraft manufacturer General Atomics AeroTec Systems (GA-ATS) is currently developing and manufacturing the new Do228 NXT. Based on the well-known and proven Do228 aircraft, the new series promises customers around the world a mission-ready and versatile aircraft for special missions and transport flights.
Now the Do228 OEM is taking the key steps in the production process at its site in Oberpfaffenhofen and the completion of the first Do228 NXT is only a few months away.
In-house production in Germany
To guarantee the high quality of the aircraft manufacturing process and strengthen the supply chain, the majority of production was relocated to the company's site. Other key components are all manufactured in Germany or Europe. GA-ATS has set up a modern production facility and implemented many technical optimizations to the aircraft. “By focusing on in-house production of the Do228 NXT, we ensure that the aircraft will be of the highest quality and the shorter and stronger supply chains will result in reliable deliveries” said Florian Rohe, Managing Director of General Atomics AeroTec Systems.
Following the successful start of the production of individual components for the Do228 NXT in 2024 – e.g. the wings are manufactured by the company itself - final assembly of the first Do228 NXT has now also begun this year. The series production at its facility at the Oberpfaffenhofen Special Airport in Germany is progressing smoothly, starting a new era for this mission-proven aircraft.
Numerous technical innovations and optimizations
Many technical innovations and optimizations were implemented for the series production of the Do228 NXT. These range from small components to major improvements, which are being implemented step by step.
Many new state-of-the-art components have been incorporated, that are more modern compared to the predecessor model Do228 NG. New features include modern LED lights in the cabin, new braking systems, the installation of a new electric air conditioning system and a new AHRS (Attitude and Heading Reference System), among others. More efficient components and optimizations in the manufacturing process also have additional positive effects, such as cost savings and weight reductions.
With these technical improvements and the rapidly progressing production, the German aircraft manufacturer General Atomics AeroTec Systems is on the verge of the Do228 NXT launch – the Next Generation of the legendary Do228.
