General Atomics AeroTec Systems receives certification for Do228 simulator providing realistic pilot training in Oberpfaffenhofen

The manufacturer of the Do228 General Atomics AeroTec Systems (GA-ATS) has received the certification from the German LBA for the new Do228 Simulator according to CS FSTD(A) Issue 2. Thus, the service portfolio for the Do228 has been further expanded and pilots can now train the handling of the aircraft at the Oberpfaffenhofen site.

German certification received
The Belgium simulator manufacturer Euramec designed a flight simulation training device (FSTD) representing a Dornier Do228-212NG. As the OEM of the Do228, General Atomics Aerotec Systems provided the necessary data package based on actual flight test data. The new FSTD therefore matches the real aircraft in terms of handling qualities and performance figures as close as possible.
After development and thorough testing, the Do228 simulator is now certified as Flight and Navigation Procedure Trainer level II (FNPT II) by the German Luftfahrt Bundesamt (LBA) initially. In a next certification step General Atomics Aerotec Systems will apply for an even higher certification class called the Flight Training Device Level 2.

State-of-the-art simulator
With the certification the FSTD can be used for complete Do228 pilot training, like IFR training and checking including all modern GPS based navigation procedures, TCAS, TAWS and weather radar system trainings.
The state-of-the-art simulator is capable of simulating all thinkable weather conditions including adverse conditions like thunderstorms and micro bursts. Additionally, every emergency and malfunction within the physical limitations of a fixed based training device can be simulated and trained by the pilots as all aircraft systems are featured into every detail.

Comprehensive Do228 service portfolio
The new FSTD will be integrated in the training programs of General Atomics AeroTec Systems, which is an EASA approved training organization. Customer training has already started at the Oberpfaffenhofen training facility. As the manufacturer of the Do228, GA-ATS also offers extensive MRO, Upgrade and Modernization services and can implement high-quality aircraft paint jobs in its Oberpfaffenhofen Paint Shop.

Exhibitor at Paris Air Show
From June 19 to 25, General Atomics AeroTec Systems will be at the Paris Air Show in France at Booth B 194 in Hall 3. The team of experts will be there to answer questions about the Do228 service portfolio of General Atomics AeroTec Systems as well as the recently announced Do228 NXT.
