General Atomics AeroTec Systems (GA-ATS) maintains NH90 helicopters at Oberpfaffenhofen Special Airport on behalf of the German Armed Forces to ensure their availability and operational readiness. The company is expanding its maintenance capacities at the beginning of 2026: a sixth maintenance dock will be put into operation in the NH90 hangar.
Extensive maintenance services for NH90 helicopters
With the additional dock, GA-ATS is responding to the increasing demand for maintenance services and underlining its role as a reliable partner to the Bundeswehr. As a certified DEMAR 145 maintenance organization, the company is approved by the German Armed Forces Aviation Office for base maintenance on NH90 TTH and NH90 NTH. The range of services includes planned and unplanned maintenance work, functionality tests, component overhauls and integrated fly-in operations - constantly focusing on quality, safety and technical excellence.
Important partner of the German Armed Forces
The German Armed Forces has entrusted the maintenance of its NH90 helicopters to the facility in Oberpfaffenhofen since 2018. The company currently operates five maintenance docks for the NH90 - capacity will now be further increased with the commissioning of the sixth dock at the beginning of 2026. The company's many years of expertise in the maintenance of military helicopters dates back to 1967, when maintenance of the Bell UH-1D helicopters began and continued until 2021.
“By opening this additional dock, we are making a strategic investment in the future whilst strengthening our position as a certified maintenance organization for military aircraft,” explains Florian Rohe, Managing Director of General Atomics AeroTec Systems. “At the same time, we are underlining our long-term commitment to the German Armed Forces - both in NH90 maintenance and in the operation of the Do228 aircraft that we manufacture.”
New jobs at the Oberpfaffenhofen site
By expanding its maintenance capacities, GA-ATS is creating additional jobs. The company is particularly looking for certified aircraft mechanics (m/f/d) for the NH90, as well as production planners (m/f/d), aircraft electricians/avionics technician (m/f/d) and certifying staff CAT B1.3 and CAT B2 (m/f/d). "Our NH90 team is very well coordinated and carries out maintenance and overhaul work of the highest quality. In order to continue to grow, we are looking for new colleagues," says Albert Meisinger (Head of NH90 MRO).
